Comfy For My Weekend!

Hello,
How is your weekend going?

Today’s post is quite late though, due to certain things but we good to go!
It’s an outfit post, and I’ve decided to go comfy today. Yup!

It’s probably my first time in baggy jean, and I can tell you it feels so good and comfortable.

My mom thrifted this mom’s jean for me at a yard sale in church (noticed the pun?). I chose it though, but she did the bargaining and all.

image

image

I actually intend to alter it around the shin/calf, because I prefer it when mom’s jean or should I say baggy jean are tapered at the shin/calf area.
But before then, I’ve decided to put up this outfit post.

image

image

I paired my baggy jean with an old shirt which I rocked as an off shoulder with extra long sleeves. By the way, extra long sleeves is a trend I might be totally loving this Fall/Harmattan.

image

And one of the denim chokers I made, which was inspired by and Grace of Gafashion and Ifeoma of whowhatfab. I made two, you can check the other on my Instagram.

image

And I’ve been obsessing on chokers lately, I have about 15 pieces currently (don’t judge me).

So what do you think about this outfit? What you ever rock baggy jeans? And how would you style yours?

PS: Pictures were taken with my phone, so that explains the quality.

Yours sincerely,
Lydia

How to; Stay Stylish On A Very Tight Budget!

Hey guys,
How are you doing?
I hope you are having a great time?
It’s almost fall/harmattan, however I dropped some outfit ideas you can totally rock before the transition, check
I also recently made a review on a soap I currently love, you can check here.
We all cannot deny that the current economic recession in Nigeria is really affecting a lot, as prices of things ranging from food items to fashion pieces is now so high and double- priced ( if there’s anything like that).
So either you want upgrade your wardrobe/fashion-game or just consistently maintain it, here are few ways you can stylish without having to spend so much.

1. Thrift shopping.
I do more of thrift shopping, and I’ll suggest you do it too. You’d find really cool stuffs for great prices and you also get to find fashion treasures during your thrift adventure.  Ifeoma and Thonia shared some useful tips on how to thrift shop effectively check here and here.
But you can’t afford the stress of an adventurous thrift shopping in markets, you can take advantage of yard sales like to NFB yardsale, here are some pictures from their last two editions.

2. Identify your wardrobe essentials.
Wardrobe essentials may differ due to individual personal style, your wardrobe essentials are like the fundamentals of your wardrobe.  Everything has gone double its price, you can’t afford to buy clothes or fashion pieces that you don’t really need, and how do you avoid that, by prioritizing and focusing on your essentials.
I provided more details on how to balance your personal style with your budget in the recent edition of Rainbow Magazine, check here.

3. Maximize Your Wardrobe and Make Do Of What You Have.
This is one of the advantages of building your wardrobe on essentials; it makes it a lot easier and more versatile to style. Here’s a tip; check your wardrobe with a new set of eyes, mix and match, experiment until you get your perfect finds.
For instance, take a look at the image above; you’ll notice there are 3 outfits styled with 9 pieces.
Now depending on the your styling skills you can actually achieve over 25 outfits with just this 9 pieces. Yeah How good is that? Try mixing and matching the pieces in the image, in the process of that you will not only ascertain what I said, but you’ll also discover that most of these pieces go well together no matter how they are styled(that’s the power of essentials).

4. Indulge in DIYs and Recycling.
I do a lot of DIYs and recycling, however I’m often very lazy to put them up yo!
The only DIYs I have successfully been able to put up the blog is this and this, you can check them out while I work on putting up more DIYs, you can also check out Ijenna’s blog for some useful fashion DIYs .

5. Watch out for sales!

Although there you’ll hardly find sales during this period, but when you do, take advantage!
However don’t forget to make a shopping list and prioritize (tip 2) so you don’t buy on impulse.

I shared more tips on balancing your personal style with your budget on the recent edition of Rainbow Magazine. You can check here to get yours.

I hope you enjoyed today’s post.
If have other ways you are surviving  and staying stylish through this recession, don’t forget to share and let’s rub minds together.
It is needed!

Letting Go.

Hello,
How was your weekend?
Mine got me thinking about my growth in life.
How often do you measure your growth in life? Wait! Do you even measure your growth at all? If you do, ever feel like you are not growing at your desired rate? Maybe there are certain things you are holding on to, which is in turn holding you back in life. Or Perhaps, you want to do certain things, but you feel like you are not up to task, or you’re not enough.
Doubt is the single greatest enemy of confidence. It most likely to exist when we refuse to let go of our fears.

image

There are several reasons accountable to why people don’t let go of their fears and doubts.
Well, at the end it results to;
• Stealing your inner Peace and Joy.
• Limiting your potential.
• Stagnancy in life .
• Killing your ideas and dreams.
• Causing you to miss Gods best.
• A lot others.

In this journey of life, my personal growth and self development, is one thing I work on regularly.
Letting go is a very important step to personal growth. And thanks to God and these few tips, I can say that growth game is pretty strong. I’m sharing them with you with the hope that it would be useful to you too.

image

Accept who you are;
You should learn that there are certain things you are and aren’t, there are certain things you can do and can’t do.
Accept that fact, you can’t be or do everything!

• Let go of Anger,Bitterness and Frustration;
Forgive those have offended you, forgive whatever situation that is making you angry or bitter, most importantly, forgive yourself. Do it, not for them, but for your peace!

image

• Let go of Past Failures;
To be successful, you need to change your orientation about failure. Failure is really just a feedback telling you to evaluate your experience, learn from it, use the lessons/information gained to adjust your plan, and then try a new approach. If it fails, learn from your mistakes, then try again, keep learning and keep trying until you win.
Falling doesn’t make you a failure,not rising after your fall is what makes you a failure.
“It doesn’t matter where you’ve been. What matters is what direction your feet are headed right now”.

• Stop comparing yourself to others;
Comparing yourself will cause doubt.
You should never compare yourself to another for two reasons: One, you’ll always find someone who’s doing a better job than you, and you’ll get discouraged. And two, you’ll always find somebody you’re doing a better job than, and you will be filled with pride. Don’t compare yourself. You are unique, so you are incomparable!
( 2 Corinthians 10:12 says that people who compare themselves to other people are foolish). Enough said!

• Stop looking for validation based on the opinion of others;
I rarely fall for this because I’ve always known what I wanted when it comes to my craft and career, and with my progress so far I can say that God is right behind me ahead of me.
But most times we rely on other people’s judgment for validation. In relation to what Ibukun wrote, God should be the only one to validate your craft and career.
Everyone’s got opinions, don’t let any bring you down because only God’s opinion matters! Got that?

•Leave your comfort zone;
Yes! That zone is comfortable but it resistant to growth. If you really want to grow, you should step out of your comfort zone.This is actually easier said than done because we often don’t like been inconvenienced. I’m more of an introvert but I never really achieved anything until I chose to step out of my comfort zone (and well, I’m still in the process of cracking my shell).

image

• Indulge in positive energy;
Indulge yourself in positive energy. Be optimistic. See the good side to every situation. One of the biggest secrets to my growth is doing away with negative energy and staying away from bad vibes. Surrounding myself with people (intellectuals) with whom I can learn from,people who are optimistic and are full of good vibes. It works!

• Have self-confidence;
Believe in you, I don’t know how much more I can lay emphasis on this but trust me, No one else can believe in you like YOU.
Besides God will never give you something bigger than you. That means, for him to give you certain skills and ability, he knows you can make use of them (for good), so why doubt your creator?

Be bold and strong! Banish fear and doubt! For remember, the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9 LB)

•Trust in God,he is the ultimate.
His thoughts for us are of good and not evil. His grace will never disgrace you. He knows the best for you, therefore put all of your trust in him.
Not matter how much work you put, at the end of the day, only him can take you to where you want to be.

This is a new week.
God has given you a fresh start, an opportunity to accept who you are, to let go of the anger, bitterness and past failures, to stop comparing and looking for approval , step out of your comfort zone, be full of positive energy,believe in you and most importantly trust in God.
Don’t be too busy to work on your personal growth.
I hope this helps you like it’s helping me.
Let go of it all and embrace the process in positivity this new week!

PS ; Thanks to Ibukun for providing me some of these wonderful quotes, she responded to me on a short notice. She is such an amazing writer. Check out her work(s) on Instagram – @ibukunwrites

Have a wonderful week!
